3. Will you offer an affiliate program? If you expect to offer an affiliate program (which is a great way to build an army of salespeople for free), it's important you use and affiliate program that can be used universally regardless of the shopping cart in use. 8. Will bookkeeping be easy? How will you keep track of order income, sales tax, etc.? Many small businesses use an accounting program like QuickBooks or Peachtree. Can you import sales into your accounting program?

9. Is there a trial available? Once you've narrowed down the possibilities, insist on a free trial. There is no substitute for actually using a program before you make a committment. You'll learn more in a couple days of using a program than you will in weeks of asking questions.

10. How is the support? This is probably the most important item if your business will rely on the continued operation of your web store. Does the company understand your business practices and how promptly do they respond when you have a problem? Is support included, or will you be paying extra?
